Ask for a Promotion

The hardest part can be the sentence that opens the meeting. Once you have said that you want to discuss progression, an unspoken ambition becomes a practical conversation about the work you already do and the responsibility you are ready to carry. Build your case from outcomes rather than effort alone: targets reached, problems solved, colleagues supported and duties already handled at the next level. Connect each example to the organisation's actual expectations for the role. Choose a proper meeting, check any internal process and prepare for more than a simple yes. A fair answer may be not yet, so ask for specific gaps, support, measurable criteria and a review date; keep the conversation professional and do not make threats you cannot sustain. Count it complete when you have made a clear request and left with a decision or documented route forward. Add it if your contribution has grown beyond your title and you are ready to replace guesswork with evidence.
