Attend Running With the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain

Pamplona’s encierro is the famous morning bull run during San Fermín, but “attend” does not have to mean entering the route. Watching from a booked balcony or an authorised spectator area gives you the sound, speed and ritual without taking on the exceptional risk faced by runners and animals. The run begins at 8am on 7–14 July and covers a narrow urban route in only a few minutes, after a long period of preparation and crowd control. If you intend to run, read the city’s current rules in full: participants must be at least 18, obey police and route officials, carry no phone or obstructive object, and must not be intoxicated. This is not a guided attraction and there is no safe beginner lane; serious injury is possible. Travel insurance may exclude the activity. Safer attendance means booking a reputable balcony, arriving before access closes and respecting residents. Wear secure footwear, avoid glass and keep clear of exits. You can complete this goal honestly as a spectator; choosing not to run is sound judgement, not a lesser experience.
