Create a photo essay

Create a photo essay.

Choose a single, tightly focused subject and tell its story through a sequence of photographs. Start by defining the theme and an emotional or journalistic angle, then research the subject and build a shot list that includes establishing, portrait, detail and action images. Over several shoots, capture more frames than you need and vary shot size, perspective and lighting. Edit ruthlessly: select images that advance the narrative, then arrange them into a sequence that leads a viewer from context to detail and resolution. Write concise captions and clear credit lines to anchor each image. Decide how you will present the essay—online gallery, printed zine or single printed spread—and prepare technical files accordingly (resolution, colour profile and export sizes). Include an image list, captions, and permissions notes; where appropriate, produce a short introductory text to set the reader’s expectations. Reflect on ethical and legal considerations before publication: obtain releases for identifiable people, anonymise when needed, be transparent about staged shots and keep source material organised for future verification.
