Do the Morroco three peaks challenge

Do the Morroco three peaks challenge

Start in Imlil, climb more than 1,500 metres to the mountain refuge, then wake up knowing the hard work has barely started. The Morocco Three Peaks Challenge packs three 4,000-metre summits into three days: Timzguida at 4,089 metres and Ras Ouanoukrim at 4,083 metres on day two, followed by Mount Toubkal at 4,167 metres on the final morning. The operator’s itinerary covers roughly 44 kilometres, with summit days of up to ten hours and a final descent of more than 2,500 metres back towards Imlil. The challenge is concentrated rather than technical. There are no specialist climbing skills required in normal summer conditions, but you need to be comfortable scrambling, walking for six to ten hours at a time and operating above 4,000 metres on consecutive days. Toubkal is the highest mountain in North Africa, while the two Ouanoukrim summits give you two more major High Atlas peaks before your legs have had much chance to recover. This is one to train for. High Atlas Hiking recommends it for experienced hikers with good fitness, with May to October providing the most favourable non-winter conditions; November to April brings snow and can require winter mountaineering skills. Their current three-day package includes guides, two nights in a mountain refuge, meals, Marrakech transfers and mule support, with prices starting from €265 per person. Build up your hill endurance beforehand, arrive properly equipped, and add this to your list if one 4,000-metre summit no longer feels quite ambitious enough.
