Eat Breakfast in Bed
The first cup of tea tastes different when the day has begun but you have not yet left the duvet. Breakfast in bed turns an ordinary morning into a small ceremony: a tray arrives, curtains open and the usual rush is replaced by time to eat while the room slowly brightens. It can be romantic, celebratory or simply a deliberate kindness to yourself. Choose food that travels well and still feels like breakfast you want. Pastries, toast, fruit, yoghurt and a covered drink are easier than balancing a full fry-up, while a sandwich or carefully plated pancakes can add a sense of occasion without filling the bed with crumbs. Prepare what can be done in advance, use a sturdy tray with raised edges and include cutlery, napkin and somewhere secure for the mug. Fresh sheets afterwards can be part of the plan. If serving somebody else, check preferences, allergies and whether they actually enjoy eating in bed before staging a surprise. Keep chilled foods cold and serve cooked food promptly. Use a lidded insulated cup for a sleepy child or anyone with unsteady hands, and keep boiling drinks, sharp knives, candles and trailing charger cables away from bedding. Do not carry an overloaded tray on stairs, and clear dairy, meat, eggs and leftovers rather than leaving them in a warm bedroom. Put the phone aside, open a book or share the paper, and allow the meal to last longer than convenience requires. The luxury is not room service or an elaborate menu; it is giving a familiar morning enough attention to become memorable.
