Ride the Trans-Siberian Railway
Board in Moscow, organise a week’s life around a narrow berth and watch European Russia stretch into forest, the Ural Mountains and Siberia before the Pacific finally appears at Vladivostok. The full journey replaces sightseeing speed with distance felt one station, meal and time-zone change at a time. The Trans-Siberian is a railway route, not one special tourist train. The main Moscow–Vladivostok line covers roughly 9,289 kilometres, and through services take about six to seven days without stopovers. Travellers can also build longer itineraries around cities and Lake Baikal, or take related Trans-Mongolian and Trans-Manchurian routes when borders and services permit. This is currently an aspiration to postpone for UK travellers. As checked in August 2026, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office advises against all travel to Russia because of security risks, limited flights and restricted UK government support; travelling against that advice may invalidate insurance. Do not book while that warning applies. Keep the idea on your list, monitor official advice and rebuild the plan only when the route can be undertaken responsibly.
