See the tulip fields in the Netherlands

Long rows of pink tulips flowering in the Bollenstreek near Hillegom.

A flat Dutch horizon makes the colour feel almost architectural: long bands of pink, red and yellow laid across dark soil beneath a wide spring sky. Seeing the tulip fields from a quiet road or cycle path gives the spectacle room to unfold. The Bollenstreek between Haarlem and Leiden is the best-known region, but flowering dates move with temperature and growers' schedules. A route through working countryside can be more satisfying than treating one garden or roadside stop as the whole experience. Use current bloom information, travel outside peak traffic where possible and stay on public roads and authorised paths. Fields are private crops, not photo sets: never cross barriers, walk between rows, pick flowers or block farm access for a picture. Count it complete after seeing substantial working fields in bloom from a lawful viewpoint or route. Add it if you can plan around a short natural season and enjoy the landscape without needing to step inside it.
