Shear a Sheep Under Expert Supervision

A fleece comes away in long connected sections, revealing how much judgement sits behind a job that looks quick in expert hands. Done well, shearing is calm, efficient husbandry rather than a contest of strength. Arrange the experience only with an experienced shearer responsible for the animal’s welfare. Begin with handling, positioning, equipment and emergency instruction, then practise a limited supervised section before attempting more; the expert should stop or take over immediately when needed. Use maintained guarded equipment, clean clothing and secure non-slip footing. Never shear an unfit, wet or heavily pregnant sheep, force a distressed animal or work without first-aid arrangements for both animal and person. Follow local welfare, movement, biosecurity and veterinary requirements. Count it complete only after safely shearing a meaningful section or full fleece under direct expert control without compromising welfare. Add it if you want to understand the skilled, physical work behind wool and the responsibility that comes with handling livestock.
