Sleep Beneath a Sky Full of Stars

As the last light fades, familiar countryside changes scale. The fire settles, conversation thins out and constellations appear one by one until the roof above you is larger than any room. Choose a lawful campsite, bothy, garden or permitted wild-camping area with a safe forecast and clear land-access rules. Check fire restrictions, toilets, drinking water, transport and emergency signal before leaving, and tell someone your route when travelling remotely. Use a suitable sleeping bag, insulated mat, shelter or bivvy, head torch and warm dry layers. Keep away from cliffs, flood channels and dead trees, store food responsibly, extinguish flames completely and follow Leave No Trace principles. A tent, accessible pod or vehicle pitch still counts if open-air sleeping is unsuitable. Count it complete after spending a safe night where the stars are visible from your sleeping place. Add it if you want darkness, weather and distance from routine to turn an ordinary night’s rest into a memory with its own horizon.
