Complete Whamageddon

December fills with familiar music in shops, taxis, adverts and kitchens, which is exactly what turns Whamageddon into a strangely absorbing seasonal game. From 1 December, one recognisable opening can end three weeks of careful listening in a supermarket aisle. The standard challenge is to avoid hearing the original Wham! recording of Last Christmas until the end of 24 December in your local time. Covers and remixes do not count. You do not need to hide from every celebration; the fun comes from carrying on with December while noticing how little control you have over its soundtrack. Agree the rules with anyone joining you and respect people who are not playing. Do not trick or publicly embarrass somebody, disrupt a workplace, or avoid safety announcements and ordinary social contact for the sake of the game. If you recognise the original recording, accept the loss and carry on. Count this complete if you reach Christmas Day without recognising the original song during the game period. Add it if you enjoy harmless rituals that make ordinary errands feel suspenseful and give friends one small shared story across the month.
