Swim at Dean’s Blue Hole with Care

Dean’s Blue Hole begins in a sheltered turquoise bay, then darkens abruptly where the seabed falls away. Swimming across that boundary makes the depth visible without needing to chase it, and the surrounding cliffs keep the extraordinary change in colour close to shore. Visit only in calm, suitable conditions and stay within your ordinary swimming ability. Go with a capable companion, enter from a safe point, keep the shore within easy reach and choose a simple surface swim rather than treating the location as an invitation to freedive. There may be no lifeguard or immediate rescue. Never swim alone, hyperventilate, practise breath-hold diving or enter after alcohol; leave the water for currents, waves, fatigue or poor visibility. Check current local conditions and medical suitability, supervise children continuously and remain on shore if unsure. Sand and uneven access may limit mobility. Count it complete after a controlled surface swim in the sheltered bay without breath-hold diving or entering conditions beyond your ability. Add it if you want to feel the drama of a blue hole while keeping the achievement deliberately simple and safe.
