Enter Capri’s Blue Grotto by Authorised Rowboat

A small authorised rowboat entering the glowing blue sea cave at Capri.

The entrance is so low that passengers lie back as the rowboat slips beneath the rock. Inside, sunlight passes through the submerged opening and turns the water an electric blue, while voices and oars echo around the dark chamber. Do not attempt the activity named in the old title: swimming into the Blue Grotto is prohibited and exposes people to waves, rock and boat traffic. Visit only through the authorised rowboat system when sea conditions allow, accepting that weather can close the cave without notice. Follow the boatman’s instructions, keep hands inside, remain seated or reclined and never enter from a private boat or after official operations end. Check transfer access, waiting conditions and suitability for limited mobility, claustrophobia or back problems before travelling. Count it complete after a lawful authorised rowboat visit inside the cave—not a swim. Add it if you want the strange transition from bright sea to luminous darkness, while leaving the dangerous and prohibited version firmly off the list.
