Take a Cruise to Antarctica

An expedition cruise ship travelling through icy Antarctic waters.

After days of open water, the first ice appears as a pale line and then becomes a landscape. An expedition ship brings you into a world of cliffs, penguin colonies, shifting weather and silence large enough to change the way a morning feels. Most voyages reach the Antarctic Peninsula from southern South America and combine sea days with Zodiac outings and carefully managed landings. No wildlife sighting or site is guaranteed; a credible expedition treats weather and conservation rules as the itinerary's controlling facts. Choose an experienced operator following Antarctic Treaty and IAATO guidance, compare passenger numbers, medical screening, evacuation cover, included clothing and the true total cost. Vessels carrying more than 500 passengers do not land, and no more than 100 visitors from one vessel may be ashore at once. Count it complete after crossing into the Antarctic region and taking part in the permitted programme with full biosecurity care. Add it only if you can accept the cost, carbon impact, uncertainty and duty to behave as a restrained guest.
