Take a picture in front of the White House
Frame one of the world’s most recognisable residences behind you from President’s Park in Washington, DC. Lafayette Park gives the closest usual pedestrian view of the north side, while the Ellipse looks across the South Lawn towards the Truman Balcony. Both viewpoints are public spaces, but Secret Service activity can close them without notice. Fences, construction and events can alter the angle, and getting a photograph never permits crossing a barrier or ignoring a ranger. The White House Visitor Center offers useful context if the closest area is unavailable. Check the National Park Service update on the day, visit in daylight and keep bags compact. Use a handheld phone or camera and respect any temporary restriction on tripods or selfie sticks. Add this to your list and take home your own view of a building seen in history books every day.
