Take an Underwater Selfie

A swimmer holding a small camera for a selfie while standing chest-deep in open water.

Underwater, a simple portrait becomes a coordination problem: buoyancy changes, hair and fabric move on their own, light loses colour and the shutter must be found while you are still breathing comfortably. A pool is the easiest place to learn. Use shallow water, a camera or housing rated for the depth, and another person who watches the swimmer rather than the screen. Scuba photographs come later and must never replace buddy awareness or established dive skills. Check seals before entering, secure the device without creating an entanglement hazard and never hold your breath underwater for repeated attempts. Keep away from currents, boats, wildlife and fragile habitat; abandon the photograph whenever breathing, visibility or control deteriorates. Count it complete when you capture one recognisably underwater self-portrait without compromising safety. Add it if you want a playful image that rewards preparation more than posing.
