Cross San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge

The Golden Gate Bridge crossing the bay in low cloud.

The bridge begins as a red line in fog, then grows until towers, cables, water and traffic all move at different speeds around you. Halfway across, San Francisco and the Marin Headlands occupy opposite horizons. Choose whether to walk, cycle, use transit or drive, and check the bridge authority’s current hours, sidewalk allocation, toll and access rules. Plan transport at both ends; fog, wind, maintenance and major events can change a comfortable crossing quickly. Stay in the designated lane, obey staff and signs, control speed on a bicycle and keep clear when stopping for views. Bring layers and hearing protection if useful, secure loose items and check accessible routes and transit connections. If you or another person feels in crisis, move to staff or emergency support immediately. Count it complete after travelling from one end of the bridge to the other by any lawful mode. Add it if you want an engineering landmark to become a lived distance, with the city, bay and weather changing step by step around you.
