Eat at a pitch-black restaurant

The last visible doorway closes and the table has to be rediscovered by touch. Without colour or presentation to lead, the first mouthful arrives as temperature, scent and texture before your mind catches up and names it. Choose an established dark-dining restaurant with trained staff, controlled routes and clear emergency procedures. Some employ blind or visually impaired guides; value their expertise without claiming that one meal simulates or explains the varied reality of living with sight loss. Declare every allergy, intolerance and dietary requirement before arrival, and ask how the venue prevents mistakes when dishes cannot be visually checked. Follow the guide's instructions, keep phones and light sources put away, move only when directed and arrange an immediate exit if darkness causes panic or disorientation. Count it complete after eating a full course or meal in a professionally managed, completely dark dining room. Add it if removing one dominant sense might make you pay closer attention to food, conversation and the guidance of another person.
