Visit Afghanistan

Keep Afghanistan on a future list for the day responsible leisure travel becomes defensible. Its cultural map includes the Bamiyan Valley, the Minaret of Jam, Herat's architecture and mountain landscapes shaped by centuries of movement between Central and South Asia. This is not an ordinary holiday goal in 2026. The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office advises against all travel to Afghanistan, describes travel throughout the country as extremely dangerous and warns that consular support is severely limited. Visiting against that advice can also invalidate insurance. Do not book or attempt this activity while the official warning remains in force. Follow FCDO updates, wait for a sustained change in security and entry conditions, and reassess independent advice if travel becomes possible in future. Add this to your list as a long-term ambition, with patience and safety written into the goal.
