Visit Chad when official advice and a specialist route allow

Chad stretches from the streets and markets of N'Djamena towards Sahel grassland, wetlands and an immense Saharan north. In a safer future journey, the country would reveal itself through long distances, changing light and conversations that are rarely part of a conventional tourism route. As of 28 August 2026, UK official advice is against all travel to the northern provinces, the Lake Chad region, western Kanem and areas near other borders, and against all but essential travel to the rest of Chad, including N'Djamena. This is therefore not a trip to plan casually now. The northern Ennedi landscape is specifically inside an all-travel warning area even though it often appears in travel imagery. If official advice changes enough to support a lawful leisure visit, use a reputable specialist with current local security capability and build the route only around permitted areas. Confirm visas, vaccinations, insurance validity, communications, road transport, medical evacuation and independent exit plans. Do not improvise border journeys or assume that a past itinerary remains safe. Count this complete only after official advice permits the exact route and you have experienced Chad beyond an airport or transit stop with responsible local guidance. Its place on a future list is the chance to understand a complex Sahelian country on its own terms, not to collect danger as a badge.
