Cross from Malabo's island setting on Bioko to the forested mainland and the journey becomes an exercise in geography as much as travel. Spanish is the official language most visitors notice first, while volcanic slopes, Gulf of Guinea coastline and rainforest shape what can actually be reached. Bioko and RÃo Muni are separated by sea, so this is not a destination to improvise from one hotel. Malabo retains colonial-era buildings, and protected forest areas support primates and other wildlife, but access, guiding and conservation conditions need checking locally. Limited public transport and cash dependence add practical friction.
