Cross Mostar’s Old Bridge and Stay for the City

Mostar’s stone bridge makes a graceful arc above the Neretva, but the city around it carries the fuller story: Ottoman streets, church towers, cafés, repaired buildings and visible traces of a war still within living memory. Cross Stari Most early or later in the day, then use museums, memorial interpretation and neighbourhood streets to understand more than the famous view. Plan at least one overnight stay if possible and learn how Bosniak, Croat and other histories meet in the city. The polished bridge and old-town stones can be slippery; use handrails where available and do not imitate bridge divers. Treat war sites and residents with respect, ask before photographing people and check current travel, heat, river and accessibility information. Count it complete after crossing the Old Bridge and spending meaningful time with Mostar’s layered cultural and recent history. Add it if you want a celebrated landmark to lead beyond beauty into questions of repair, coexistence and what a city chooses to remember.
