Visit Pakistan

A motorcyclist on a road through the snow-capped mountains of Upper Hunza, Pakistan.

Pakistan can move from Lahore's courtyards and food streets to the huge geometry of the Karakoram within one journey. The distances are real, but so is the sense that several histories, languages and landscapes are meeting along the road. Build a route from places that are outside current advised-against areas and recheck every stage shortly before travel. UK guidance contains specific regional warnings rather than one blanket prohibition, so a destination name alone is not enough: the road, border area and district all matter. Allow for permits, altitude, weather disruption and conservative road times, and use reputable local transport or guides where conditions demand it. Respect religious and cultural norms, ask before photographing people and avoid demonstrations and security sites. Count it complete after a meaningful multi-place visit that includes everyday culture as well as landscape, undertaken entirely within areas official advice supports. Add it if generous hospitality, deep history and some of the world's most dramatic mountain country sound worth careful planning.
