Visit Russia | St. Petersburg

Keep St Petersburg as a future ambition: palaces, canals and broad avenues frame one of Europe’s great art cities, with the Hermitage, Peter and Paul Fortress and imperial suburbs demanding far more than a rushed weekend. The city’s architecture reflects Russia’s outward-looking imperial capital, while museums, memorials and the siege of Leningrad carry more difficult histories. Long summer evenings and frozen winter waterways create very different versions of the same place. Do not arrange this trip while the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office advises against all travel to Russia. Travelling against official advice can invalidate insurance and consular assistance may be severely limited. Revisit the goal only if official advice changes, then check visas, payment access, insurance and transport from scratch. Keep it on your list as a future cultural journey, not a current booking plan.
