Visit Saudi Arabia

Elephant-shaped sandstone formation rising from the desert at AlUla, Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia combines old trading cities, archaeological landscapes and vast desert scenery, so it suits travellers who want a trip built around both culture and the outdoors. Riyadh and Jeddah offer contrasting modern and historic districts, while AlUla is known for sandstone formations and ancient sites including Hegra. A representative trip would allow several days and combine at least two contrasting places: for example, time in Riyadh or Jeddah followed by AlUla and its surrounding desert. Plan the route around realistic transfer times rather than treating the country as one compact destination, and reserve controlled sites or guided experiences when required. Check current entry rules and official travel advice immediately before booking; some regions can be subject to official warnings and should be excluded from the route. Local law and custom materially affect the trip: alcohol is illegal, public behaviour and photography are regulated, modest dress is expected, and opening patterns can change during Ramadan. Heat and exposed terrain also make water, sun protection and sensible timing essential. Count this as complete after spending several days in Saudi Arabia and experiencing at least two genuinely different parts of the country, with one cultural or historic visit and one landscape-led experience. A short airport connection or an isolated hotel stay does not meet the intent.
