Plan a Future Visit to Syria

The Syrian flag flying against a bright sky.

Damascus has courtyards scented with jasmine, covered markets and streets shaped by centuries of ordinary life; Aleppo, Bosra and Palmyra hold histories that reach far beyond any single modern conflict. A future journey could connect those places with the people rebuilding homes, trades and cultural institutions. This is not a journey to make now. As of August 2026, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office advises against all travel to Syria because security is unpredictable, terrorist attacks and kidnapping remain serious risks, infrastructure is damaged and British consular support is unavailable inside the country. Keep a future plan, not a booking. When official advice eventually changes, rebuild the itinerary from current entry rules, open borders and airports, reputable locally accountable guides, insurance that explicitly covers the trip, functioning medical support and confirmed access to each site. Avoid former conflict areas, abandoned buildings and any ground that may contain unexploded weapons. Count this complete only after travel advice permits the journey and you have visited lawfully with robust support. Add it now if Syria's culture matters to you, while accepting that patience is part of travelling responsibly and that no historic site is worth ignoring the lives and conditions around it.
