Visit the pink lagoon in Yallabatharra, Australia
Hutt Lagoon is a large salt lake near Port Gregory whose water can appear pink, lilac or red as light and conditions change. It is a worthwhile stop for people drawn to unusual natural colour and wide coastal landscapes, but photographs should not promise one exact shade on every visit. Use the dedicated Pink Lake Lookout on Port Gregory Road and allow time to watch how the colour shifts from different angles. A clear day around the middle of the day often gives strong colour, although the lagoon is visible year-round and the result depends on weather and water conditions. The lookout is unsealed and has no facilities, so bring drinking water, closed shoes and sun protection. Do not enter or swim in the lagoon: the shore can contain sharp salt crystals and the site is best experienced from a safe established viewing point. Check road conditions and current Australian travel advice before a long regional journey. Count this as complete after stopping at a safe public viewpoint, spending enough time to observe the lagoon and its setting, and taking a photograph or memory if you want one. Seeing a dramatic bright-pink colour is not a completion requirement.
