Cross Abbey Road in London

The zebra crossing on Abbey Road with Abbey Road Studios beyond it.

Four people step across six white stripes and an ordinary London road becomes an album cover recognised around the world. At Abbey Road, the pleasure lies in finding that the famous image still belongs to a working street with buses, commuters and impatient gaps in traffic. The Beatles photographed the cover of Abbey Road outside the studios in 1969. The crossing remains near Abbey Road Studios and is protected as a listed feature, but the studios are a working private site rather than part of the crossing experience. Approach from St John's Wood, wait on the pavement and cross normally only when traffic has stopped. Do not pose in the carriageway, block drivers, climb walls or obstruct entrances; use a companion or the public webcam for a quick image and move on if the road is busy. Count it complete after one safe, uninterrupted crossing in the album's direction, whether or not the photograph is perfect. Add it if a few seconds inside a piece of music history would sharpen your next listen to the record.
