Visit Uzbekistan

Follow the old Silk Road through Uzbekistan and watch blue-tiled architecture rise above bazaars, courtyards and modern city life. Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva form the classic route, while Tashkent adds broad avenues, museums, markets and the practical rhythm of the country's capital. Give each historic city more than a rushed photograph. Visit monuments at different times of day, learn how scholarship, trade, empire and restoration shaped them, and leave room for bread, tea and conversations beyond the headline squares. British citizens can currently visit for tourism for up to 30 days without a visa, but rules can change. Check FCDO advice and passport requirements, retain accommodation registration records, use official transport and plan carefully for summer heat or winter cold. Dress respectfully at religious sites, ask before photographing people and buy crafts with enough curiosity to understand who made them. Uzbekistan is most rewarding when the architecture opens a route into living culture rather than becoming a backdrop.
