Keep Yemen on the long-term list for its extraordinary tower houses, mountain settlements, Red Sea coast and the distinctive landscapes and biodiversity of Socotra. Its architecture and cultural history deserve attention without pretending that admiration makes present-day travel responsible. As of August 2026, the FCDO advises against all travel to Yemen. Conflict, detention, kidnapping, mines, limited healthcare and the absence of routine consular support make leisure travel indefensible under current conditions. Do not book flights, accommodation or an unofficial tour while that advice remains in force. Travelling against it is likely to invalidate insurance, and social-media offers cannot replace verified security, transport and medical arrangements. Monitor official advice over the long term and revisit the idea only after sustained improvements make ordinary, insurable tourism possible. Add this as a future ambition with no deadline and no pressure to force it.
