Visit Yosemite National Park in California

A wide view from Glacier Point across Yosemite Valley and its granite peaks.

Yosemite Valley has a way of making scale physical. Granite walls rise beyond the treetops, waterfalls appear and disappear with the season, and an ordinary pause beside the Merced River can become the part of the day you remember most clearly. Build the visit around one landscape rather than a checklist. Walk or use the shuttle through the valley, spend time among giant sequoias, or take a properly prepared trail into higher country. Spring brings powerful water; summer opens more roads and trails; autumn is quieter; winter changes both access and atmosphere. In 2026 an entrance reservation is not required, but lodging, camping, wilderness trips and the Half Dome cables have separate reservation or permit rules. Check official alerts, road and weather conditions immediately before travel, store food exactly as required and never approach wildlife. Ask about accessible shuttles, trails, viewpoints, toilets and accommodation because snow, construction and seasonal services alter what is available. Count this complete when you have given one part of the park enough unhurried time to notice how light, water and weather change it. Add it when you want a famous view to become a lived day outdoors rather than a photograph taken between car parks.
