Volunteer at a local school and help children with their studies

An empty classroom with desks arranged in rows before lessons begin.

A child sounds out a stubborn word, tries the sentence again and suddenly reads it without help. School volunteering is built from moments like that: small gains made possible because one adult had the patience to stay beside the problem. The school defines what useful support looks like. You might listen to reading, practise number work, help a supervised group or prepare materials, working within the teacher's plan rather than arriving with your own curriculum. Apply through the school or an established education programme and complete its references, safeguarding checks, induction and confidentiality requirements. Keep all contact on approved premises and channels, follow staff direction and report concerns through the school's procedure rather than handling them privately. Count it complete after being accepted into a defined role and delivering the agreed session or commitment reliably. Add it if you can offer attention and consistency without needing to be the person at the front of the class.
