Cross the Causeway to St Michael’s Mount Safely

The partly exposed stone causeway leading from Marazion to St Michael’s Mount at low tide.

At low tide, a stone path emerges from Mount’s Bay and turns St Michael’s Mount from an island into a destination you can reach on foot. With water still close on either side, the short crossing carries the old excitement of using a route that the sea will soon reclaim. Check the Mount’s official causeway opening times for the exact date and allow generous margin to cross from Marazion. Book island admission if required, wear secure footwear and decide in advance whether the return will be by causeway or authorised boat. Never start outside the published safe window or attempt to outrun the incoming tide. Expect wet, uneven and slippery stone, obey staff and weather closures, supervise children closely and keep away from exposed rocks. The causeway is not step-free; ask the Mount about accessible boat transfers, wheelchairs, gradients and the parts of the island available to you. Count it complete after a safe pedestrian crossing during an officially open causeway window. Add it if you want a modest walk transformed by timing: a few hundred metres that make the relationship between coast, island and tide impossible to ignore.
